It is with great sadness that we inform you that longtime hunter education instructor Ray Hanley passed away on Tuesday. Ray has been with the hunter education program since 1990, graduating more than 4,250 students from basic hunter education courses, supporting a host of hunter education outreach programs and serving as an advisor and mentor to program staff. Ray was our oldest active instructor at 90 years old leading a course as recently as the end of February.

Ray was active in all aspects of conservation and hunting. From the political arena where Ray was a sought-after advisor by legislators to his role as appointee to Conservation Advisory Council.

Ray worked tirelessly to teach youth about hunting and firearms safety through his work with the CEFS program, Boy Scouts and with the High Rock Shooting Association.  Ray also was one of the founding members of the Friends of CEFS.

Ray’s dedication, commitment and expertise serves as an inspiration to all of us.
